National Association of Women In Construction

NAWIC was founded in 1953 by 16 women to create a support network for others like themselves.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) was founded in 1953 as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Seeing that women represented only a fraction of the construction industry workforce, 16 women founded NAWIC to create a support network for others like themselves. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. Today, NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more.

Core Purpose: To strengthen and amplify the success of women in the construction industry.

Mission Statement: The association committed to championing women to impact the direction of the construction industry. NAWIC provides education, community and advocacy for women.

My construction career chose me. I was an English teacher and was looking for a change when this career presented itself. It looked like an interesting opportunity, I took the position and it just took off from there. NAWIC has been a great organization for me. Having a group of women in the industry that comes together is pretty special.

I felt very welcomed the first meeting I attended and looked forward to the educational opportunities and the safe environment to develop my leadership skills. I joined NAWIC to be a part of an organization that is making a difference in the construction industry, the educational and personal growth opportunities and the friendships formed. The wine and chocolate events help, too!

I learned about NAWIC through another professional organizations. I felt like NAWIC would be beneficial to know other women in the industry and in varying types of positions who have different perspectives to offer. Being involved in a professional organization specifically for women is extremely helpful in the construction industry. I particularly enjoy the professional development they provide at their events.
